On the island of Ko Kho Khao, about 30 km north of Khao Lak, you can escape the hustle and bustle of mass tourism. Visit here if you want to get close to nature and truly unwind.

Beautiful Nature, Sun, and Sea

Peaceful and picturesque are words that describe Khao Lak. It is the nature, swimming, and diving/snorkeling that attract visitors. Most who travel here do so for the long, beautiful beaches. They stretch for miles and consist of fine sand occasionally interrupted by large stone boulders. Here, you have an excellent opportunity to learn to dive. The water is clear and pleasantly warm, allowing you to splash around for extended periods. A beginner's course takes about four full days.

Ko Kho Khao Island features a nearly 20 km long delightful sandy beach. There is no crowding here, and it's easy to find your perfect spot in the sun.

Village Feel with Heart

Located over 80 km north from a bustling city, Khao Lak features seemingly endless beaches. The village is quite small, with a few hundred permanent residents, and stretches along one main street. There is a lovely village atmosphere, and life unfolds at a leisurely pace. The village offers a decent selection of restaurants, bars, shopping, and entertainment.

On Ko Kho Khao, you will find a handful of small villages with a limited selection of restaurants and shops. For more shopping, you would need to head to the mainland.

Snorkeling, Diving, and Jungle Tours

Adventurous jungle and sea tours await. From here, you have the opportunity to go on excursions to Surin and Similan Islands, considered some of the finest diving spots in the world (diving certification required). You can also take a boat trip to the famous James Bond Island or paddle a canoe through the jungle. Khao Sok, one of the country's best national parks, is just an hour's drive away.

Pleasant Offerings at a Relaxed Pace

Khao Lak's central area is a 400-meter stretch along the main road passing through the village. It is lined with restaurants, shops, tailors, and everything else you might need during your holiday. Yet, things remain calm and relaxed here, contrasting sharply with more developed tourist areas.

• One of Southeast Asia's largest and most biodiverse rainforest areas is less than an hour’s journey northeast of Khao Lak, where you can still find some of the wild elephants that remain in Thailand's jungles. Wild tigers, leopards, and other big cats also call this area home, as do many spectacular hornbills.

Khao Sok National Park

• Enjoy authentic Thai cuisine and a few mosquito bites at a local restaurant with a high cozy factor.

Beach restaurant at Bang Niang Beach

• Experience the tranquility, island life, and proximity to daily Thai life on a small island. If you don't wish to stay here, you can rent a scooter in Khao Lak and take a day trip (about 30 km away).
